The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the performing arts, that are now known to be Maureen O'Hara, would certainly be a qualifier to be in the "child prodigy" category. These traits were natural for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by gifted parents and a loving, supportive family. Maureen was born in this cosy sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. She was raised by her parents and family members. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin firm, as well as held shares of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was young and became very proficient at it. This naturally-born interest with her ability for performing was remarkable. This is why she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances within her own country. In her 14th year she enrolled in the Abbey Theater to follow her goal of studying the classical theater and operatic singing.
